Meditations on the Tarot: XII The Hanged Man

"For it is written: 'Cursed is anyone who is hanged from a tree.'"
---Galatians 3:13

In this chapter we study the significance of gravity, tension, solitude, and "I AM" as depicted in the twelfth and perhaps the most enigmatic arcanum of the Tarot: THE HANGED MAN. Didn't have time to read the chapter? That's okay! Come anyway! It's donation based, it's sure to be a spirited discussion, and if the weather's nice we'll be out in the garden.

Our weekly book club and study group is based on the masterpiece of Hermetic writing, "Meditations on the Tarot." This dense, poetic tome was published anonymously and posthumously at the request of the author, who from the prose seems to be a Roman Catholic scholar. The epistolary text deeply examines the 22 trumps of the Major Arcana in a series of 22 letters addressed to the reader, each beginning with the words "Dear Unknown Friend..."

At once intellectually rigorous, lyrically readable, and ripe with spiritual profundity, these friendly letters explore the Tarot as 22 spiritual exercises which will lead the reader to firsthand experiences of mysticism, gnosis, and magic.

Indispensable for the aspiring high magician, the thirsty philosopher, and the serious student of Tarot, the only problem with these letters is how to discuss them in a mere hour. Please join us on Thursday as we continue enjoying and exploring this inexhaustible piece of writing.

Attendance is donation based; we suggest $5-$15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
