Shannon Taggart will share images and stories from her sixteen-year long project on Spiritualism, the 19th-century American born religion. This heavily illustrated talk will include photographs from Lily Dale, NY, the world’s largest Spiritualist community, Montcabirol, a physical mediumship center in France, and the Arthur Findlay College in England. Shannon’s pursuit of ectoplasm—the elusive substance said to be both spiritual and material—will be presented, as well as historical imagery related to Spiritualism's attempts to capture spirits on film. Shannon's unique approach to documenting mediums in action adds a new chapter to Spiritualism's bizarre photographic record.
This event is in support of the forthcoming book Séance:Spiritualist Ritual and the Search for Ectoplasm, currently being funded via pre-sale: https://unbound.com/books/seance-spiritualist For more, visit http://www.shannontaggart.com
